Our Lady of Lourdes (February 11) & One Week Until Lent

Today the Church celebrates Our Lady of Lourdes, recalling the day in 1858 when the Blessed Virgin appeared to fourteen-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in a grotto near the town dump. Bernadette was poor, asthmatic, and considered slow by her teachers—yet Our Lady chose her. "I do not promise to make you happy in this world," Mary told her, "but in the next." It is also the World Day of the Sick, a day to remember those who suffer illness and those who care for them. Consider visiting or calling someone homebound this week, or offering a rosary for the sick in your community.
And with Ash Wednesday just one week away (February 18), now is the time to gather your family and plan your Lenten journey. What will you give up? What will you take on? How will your family pray, fast, and give alms together? Showcase Magazine: Call for Submissions
The 2026 issue of our annual magazine is now accepting submissions. Released each spring at the Spring Showcase, this publication features classical art, curated quotes, family spotlights, and the work of all of our students.
We're looking for:
- Awards & achievements – Academic honors, athletic milestones, scout rankings, camp acceptances, and other accomplishments worth celebrating
- Service & faith – Mission work, scouting projects, parish service
- Art, poetry & essays – Sketches, poems, photographs, reflections (500 words or less)
Class of 2026 seniors: Email a photograph, your accomplishments, and future plans in paragraph form to magazine@chechtx.org. Scholarship-winning essays are also featured.
